Too much fun to stay away!
Since I sold my previous wine bar in 2018 I’ve been dedicating myself to holding wine tastings and to exporting Spanish wine to foreign markets. I love both of these aspects of the wine world, but came to realice that I’d been missing the high-paced atmosphere of running a busy wine bar. Not only that, I’d been harbouring a desire to open a little restaurant. One day I was approached by a friend who owns a brew pub and wanted to take the next step by opening a second location. So we rolled all of the ingredients into one new and exciting project: Barna Brew Born.
Kitchen
Barna Brew Born is a restaurant with a wine & craft beer bar. Our food is rooted in Catalonian and Spanish culinary traditions, from tapas to full dishes. But we’ve been bold enough to update some of the most classic recipes to make them more easily accesible to today’s food culture.
A good example is the Mandonguilles amb Sipia (Meatballs and Squid), the quintessential Catalonian surf ‘n’ turf. This dish has always been served on a plate, often with potatoes and bread on the side. We decided to make a sandwich of it. More than a few eyebrows were raised when we first served it to customers. But once they’d tasted it no further explanation was necessary. It’s just really, really tasty!
Wine
We put a lot of work into offering an exciting wine selection with many wines served by the glass. We don’t focus too much on whether the wines are natural or conventional, though there are plenty of both. Instead, our guiding principle in choosing whether to serve a wine or not, is that the wine has to be well-made. If the wine isn’t good, then what are we even talking about? Secondly, the price should be reasonable and reflect the work that has gone into making the wine. So on our wine list, which is ever-changing, you’ll find bottles of all kinds and styles. But they all have something in common: they’ve been made with passion and knowledge!
Craft beer
A good beer is every bit as exciting as a good wine. So we have 10 taps from which we pour craft beers of various styles. While the number varies, about half of these we make ourselves at the original Barna Brew on Parlament over in the Sant Antoni neighborhood. Barna Brew makes Belgian-style beers, in a refreshing break from the typical craft beer places that mainly serve American-type brews. Still, we always have several taps dedicated to other brands as well.
